What bloggers are saying about the filtering trial
2008 August 5
Mike at Australian tech-rights blog “Somebody Think of the Children” has been kind enough to include me in a brief compilation of what Australian bloggers are saying about Senator Conroy’s internet filtering plan.

What a shock that people who spend significant time posting on the internet would think that this is a bad idea. I’m truly astounded*.
That said, I also think it’s a bad idea.
*May not be true.
I’m sure there are online religious communities who wouldn’t mind there being mandatory filtering. There are probably also a large number of frequent internet posters who don’t think about the impacts of mandatory filtering for both child protection and copyright infringement notices; they can be found on Livejournal, MySpace and other social networking sites.
Once this is used to block file-sharing technologies (entire protocols at a time, according to the EFA) and forces the removal of your favourite Linkin’ Park song from your MySpace profile, Rudd will have to do more than paint himself as younger than John Howard to maintain their electoral support.
