Event: The Tangled Web

Australian Greens Senator Scott Ludlam will participate in a forum in Queensland tonight, on the government’s controversial net censorship plan.

The forum is being organised by online publication, New Matilda. It features representatives from online freedom organisations and is being chaired by legal academic, Peter Black.

“This planned internet filter is flawed for its infringement on civil liberties, and for being a dangerous distraction from the important policy objective of protecting children online,” said the Greens Communications Spokesperson, Senator Ludlam.

“If the government is serious about combating child pornography it needs to invest in initiatives that target the people propagating this material and expose the causes of sexual violence in our society, rather than taking a blanket out of site out of mind approach to the issue. I’m really looking forward to tonight’s forum.”

Who: Senator Scott Ludlam, Australian Greens Senator for Western Australia; Irene Graham, Libertus.net; Nic Suzor, Electronic Frontiers Australia

When: TONIGHT, 6pm, Tuesday March 24, 2009

Where: Room B122, Queensland University of Technology, 2 George Street, Brisbane
