Greens to picket Rudd’s office

2009 May 5

Theme: 5% is not enough!
When: 11 a.m. Tuesday 5th May
Where: Kevin Rudd’s office, 630 Wynnum Road, Morningside

The components of the Government’s scheme are:

  • a 5-25% reduction on greehouse gas emissions by 2020 (the upper limit has been increased to 25% but they will take 5% to Copenhagen)
  • A probable lowering of the price on carbon below their previous minimum of $40 a tonne (possibly as low as $20).
  • A delay in introducing the legislation by a year until 2011.

The Greens senators announced today that their support is dependent on the legislation being enacted in 2010 with a 40% reduction being taken to Copenhagen but with a preparedness to accept 20% reduction on 1990 levels if that is what the other countries at Copenhagen accept.

Bob Brown has called on Greens around Australia to support their stand.
